Clicktoy: Computer Game for Toddlers

If you’re looking for an easy way to entertain young kids, the computer probably isn’t the first place you’d turn. Especially since their idea of fun is throwing their tiny fists into the keys and licking the keyboard on occasion (seen it). But we found a cool computer game that lets toddlers explore a virtual world by pressing any key.

Clicktoy’s creators call it “a safe computer playpen.” Basically, the program opens a virtual 3D environment that kids can explore by pressing computer keys. There’s only one world to explore right now — The Meadow — but Clicktoy’s planning on unveiling more eventually.

To explore these worlds, the keyboard’s keys are grouped into four sections, and pressing any key in each section will do something different.

  • The top line of function keys (F1, F2, etc.) will change the weather. Make it rain, create a rainbow, add more clouds, increase the wind, etc.
  • The big middle section of letters and numbers will interact with all the animals. Make the bunnies run to each other and hug, drop an acorn on a cow’s head…
  • The mid-right section (with “delete” and the arrow keys) will make animal noises.
  • The numbers on the far right will change the music.

Clicktoy costs $20 and downloads immediately onto your computer.

I don’t think its worth it. The child seems barely interested, and it doesnt seem to interact with him much at all. I’d go for the computer Games called “Giggles”. They are fulyl interactive..where every single key on the keyboard responds to the childs touch. No lock outs. Even the f1 etc keys make a dog sing, move something around. etc. They have I think 5 different verisons out now, and even free downloadable ones for Christmas and Halloween. They also cost $20 and waaaay more entertaining. My daughter loves the ABC’s and 123’s and the SHAPES one. I discovered them at a Baby Expo show 2 years ago and have loved them ever since!
