Guitarist Couldn’t Find Sitter, Misses Tour
What’s a rock star to do? When you’ve got kids to chase after and a tour to tend to, finding a babysitter is an essential part of maintaining the work-hard-play-hard musical lifestyle. So when tour time comes and there’s no sitter in sight, musicians like Robert Westerholt have no other option but to bow out and kiss the stage goodbye.
Before heading off on their South American tour last month, Dutch rockers Within Temptation were in a bind. The band’s founder and lead guitarist, Westerholt, couldn’t find someone to care for his 2-year-old daughter, Luna.
Where was Luna’s mother, you ask?
Well, she’s the band’s lead vocalist!

Usually, the parents leave Luna with friends when they’re on tour, but there wasn’t anyone available this time around. Dad had to sit this one out.
Said the band, “Unfortunately, we have to inform you that Robert won’t be able to go on the South American tour. The reason is that we haven’t been able to find a proper babysitter for the duration of the tour and that we are also unable to take Luna with us on this tour. We have tried until the last moment to find a solution but despite the fact that we always found one in the past, this time we couldn’t.”
And THAT is another reason why we keep harping on the importance of a back-up babysitter.
