Digital Leash for Kids

Have you ever seen those kids running around in public, but only in a two-foot radius because they were attached to a thick, nylon leash held by Mom or Dad? Looks ridiculous. Now that we’re in a much more digital age, the new trend is the much buzzed-about digital leash from Smart Target.

The Kiddo Kidkeeper is a small, wireless alarm system (looks like a key fob) that your kid wears while you keep hold of the receiver. Whenever the child wanders out of a pre-set range, your receiver emits an audible and visual alarm so you know to reel your little one back in.

Soooo… it’s like an invisible fence for your child without the zapping factor.

The Kiddo Kidkeeper can monitor up to four kids at once and can even assign different beeping sounds for each one so you know exactly who to look for when the alarm goes off. And since the transmitter is waterproof, the Kiddo Kidkeeper is safe for pools and beaches as well.

We’ve read that this thing costs around $180, but it looks like it’s only available in Portugal and Romania right now.

Whatcha think?

Sold! And since I’m set up as a sole proprieter, it’s a business expense! Although I have very few children that I have any difficulty in keeping tabs on…

I think this idea is wonderful i can’t wait for it to me more accesible in the U.S. so I can provide my children one day with this unique device.

That is a smart idea, and many parents with multiple children would be thrilled with the idea of another alternative to having a second set of hands available. However, shouldn’t the parents teach the children to stay close to their parents, or know when to stop, etc., and what the right amount of interaction is with people in the outside world. Parents should be cautious no matter what.

Butterflikat: You’re absolutely right — parents and caregiver should certainly be cautious no matter what. But, like all of you, we’re still very interested in seeing this product in action once it comes to the US! We’ll keep an eye out…
