Are You Ready for Supermanny?

You know Supernanny. You know mannies. (We still haven’t gotten a consensus on whether or not that term is derogatory.) Now get ready for this fall’s Supermanny! And yes, the show is exactly what it sounds like it will be.

Chicago’s own “gruff therapist,” Mike Ruggles, will be the Supermanny — a male version of Jo Frost — and will tackle similar child care issues in his own unique way.

“With a guy, he can connect with dads in a different kind of way,” executive producer Nick Emmerson said. “It’s really powerful stuff.”

Ruggles’ approach to diffusing family disputes will differ somewhat as well. Ruggles encourages parents to learn how to play with their kids and get to know them.

“It feels different to have a guy come in to work with your kids,” Emmerson said. “A woman has a woman’s touch, and people are more accepting and ready for her advice. We had to find the right person who has real authority and a gentle touch as well.”

ABC plans to air the episode as a special in the new Supernanny time period, 9 PM EST on Fridays.

We’re certainly interested…

Why not? There are many men who are quite capable. There are many single Moms raising sons who just may benefit from having a positive male role model in their lives. I raised a son as a single Mom and sometimes I felt it would have been great for my son to have a man around who he could confide in. We have always encouraged our daughters to do whatever they wanted to do, than why should it be different for boys. When I was in grade school all my teachers at the time were women, my son however had a male teacher in the 8th grade. This was a tough age for my son (peer pressure). This teacher was the best teacher my son had. He looked up to him. He was “cool” taught my son to always be proud of the person he was. My son is now married with a child of his own and still talks about this teacher.

I strongly agree with this show. I my self am a pt nanny and take care of a 2 yr old and 3 yr old boys. I have been there going on 2 months and i really love my job. I dnt know why so many men out there are so affraid to let their manly gaurd down and just be more affectionate and loving. It has helped me feel more secure about myself and my relationship with my gf has gotten much better. I strongly believe that the child care field is where I belong. This show should have happened along time ago, but as they say better late than never.

I would be interested in reading some of the current “feedback” after “Mr. Supernany” goes into action! Many people think a “Nanny” position is a “No-Brainer” or “just a Babysitter” It is FAR from that! It takes a strong, versitile individual who truly love children. Most children can see thru a fake OR someone who does not take the position seriously. Most importantly…you musr truly love children. I find that I learn as much from them as they can from me…just different!
Bottom line is that most children respond most postively to love. You get out of it what you are willing to give.Best wishes to all who choose this profession and are serious about it! What goes around, comes around…the blessing is yours!
