New! Sittercity’s Video Monitoring Program
You’ve probably noticed the new module on the Sittercity homepage featuring our brand new Video Monitoring Program. We’re super excited to offer our members a simple way to stay connected even when they’re not home, and we hope you’re excited about it too! To give you the skinny on what this thing is all about, here’s a little more information.
Essentially, the Video Monitoring Program consists of a wireless video camera that sends live feeds to any computer or smart phone, enabling you to check on the kids/family/home from your desk at work, the gym, the grocery store… just about anywhere.
If there are times when you won’t be able to watch the live feed, the Premium Package also comes with a DVR that records the video for you to watch whenever you want.
And, since safety is always a priority, you don’t have to worry about the video feeds being intercepted by a third party (yes, that can happen with certain nanny cams). Why? While most wireless video cameras send their video signals to a nearby base station, making them vulnerable to interception, Sittercity’s Video Monitoring Systems send video via the power lines around the home, eliminating that risk completely. The only person accessing your video feed is YOU.

This seems pretty cool. Though quite expensive.

I think it’s kinda creepy. As a nanny, I should be trusted to do the job, tis why I am hired for the job. If I felt like a cam was watching me all the time, it’d be so weird. Pretend there’s a video camera at your office desk. You’re just doing you’re job, and doing nothing out of place, but it’s just still weird. Computers watching kids are just weird.

That is really creepy. It seems like if a family trusts me enough to care for their children, as a caring, trained, attentive caregiver, they shouldn’t need to constantly videotape me. I can perhaps understand wanting to keep an eye on the situation when first hiring someone, but for goodness sake, what are a background check and references for?

I like the fact that this is available and does not take much to set up. Just because you hire someone to work for you does not mean you are a 100% sure that you can trust them. What if someone had a bad day and took it out on your babies that could not speak there is no way for you to know. Parents have to be very careful these days with who they trust. Trust is eventually earned and I am not saying that anyone should be overbearing with it. But the nanny should not care if a mom wants to feel extra safe what harm can it do pretend there is no camera.

I think this is terrible!! It indicates there is a distrust between the employee and employer. It is not right to spy on someone. If you are going to use this then the caregiver should be notified it is in place. These are outlawed in New Jersey and should be every where else!!
