Bio
Every summer of my childhood was spent at Cedar Lake Camp in Livingston, TN. At fifteen I began volunteering in the camp's Counselor in Training Program, later serving as both a residential & day-camp counselor with campers between the ages of four & fourteen. In 2006 & 2007 I worked as the director of Cedar Lake's Counselor in Training program. In this capacity I mentored &supervised a volunteer staff of approximately fifteen teenaged girls. CIT duties included all janitorial & food prep worked required by the camp as it served approximately one hundred campers weekly. I and my staff also worked to obtain materials needed for the daily program.
Wile in school I volunteered as a community ESL tutor at Trinity Church in Lancing, MI. I also completed a one year internship with Washington Avenue Baptist Church in Cookeville, TN. During this time I also worked at a support specialist for Pacesetters, Inc., a nonpfrofit organization who provides care & support to developmentaly handicapped aults & their families in small home settings. My job responcibliites including daily hygene care, grocery shopping, cooking, cleaning, balancing the checkbook, adminstering medication, planning community interactions, recording behavioral data, & provoding social & emotional support to clients. I worked primariliy in a residential sitting caring for an elderly women diagnosed with mild retardation & schisophrenia & her roomate, a 47 year old nonberal woman suffering from a severa & ongoing siezure disorder, leading to widespread partial paralysis.
After graduating with a B.S. in Secondary Education, I taught U.S. & World History for one year at Cookeville High School. The majority of students in my classroom had been identified as special needs students because of learning dsabilities, behvariol problems, or economic disadvantagement. Throughout the year I worked with social workers, school conselors, & other colleagues to taylor instruction to student needs.
I do not have children of my own, but I enjoy spending time with my two year old nephew Jack. I am currently providing one on one academic instruction to a second grade student in the home setting.
