Bio
My name is Rachel Wilson and I live in the Victorian Village area of Columbus, Ohio with my cat, Misty. We have lived here for two years now and love the area; however, I am originally from Cleveland Heights,OH where my family still resides. I recently graduated from Ohio State University with honors in sociology and human development/family studies. Upon graduation, I worked in the mental health field and then became manager of a Brenen's Cafe coffee shop on OSU's campus. I recently left that position in order to pursue working in the child care field more permanently. I hope to attend graduate school within the coming years in order to become a Child Life Specialist, a field I learned about through my volunteer work at Nationwide Children's Hospital.
Spending time with my three younger siblings and many younger cousins first made me realize that I wanted to work with children. I also have experience teaching music lessons and as the assistant director of a preschool summer camp. Although I currently have no children of my own, I certainly hope to have a large family one day. I have experience with all ages of children and enjoy playing active games outdoors, going to playgrounds, biking, or on walks. I also make a point of emphasizing good manners and educational activities while babysitting. Depending on the child's developmental level, I create games using numbers, letters, shapes, or reading, in order to make learning fun.
My personal philosophy of working with children is that this is the greatest responsibility- (both the most rewarding and most challenging)- that one can be faced with in life. The innocence and curiosity of children should bring joy to us all; however, frustrations do arise and should be faced thoughtfully and with patience, taking efforts to clearly communicate with each unique child. Safety is of utmost importance to me while caring for a parent's child and I put time and thought into determining clear rules with the child and family.
I truly enjoy caring for children and am looking forward to finding regular weekly commitments for the next 1-2 years in the Columbus area. Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you!
