I love being with young people; it is never boring or predictable. Working with youth takes enormous amounts of flexibility, creativity, patience and perseverance--not to mention the necessity and willingness to get dirty and have fun at a moments notice. This may sound easy and idyllic, but we, as adults, know that unfortunately it is a lot harder than one would like to admit to tear oneself away from the phone or internet or the endless To Do List and actually spend quality time with youth. I have trained myself through years of experience to do just that; balance tasks that need to get done with the one on one time that young people really require to development and become working members of society (whether this time means listening about a hard day at school or playing air hockey).
