Bio
Hi,
My name is Shahrina and I graduated from VCU, with a B.S. in Psychology in May 2006. I have always been interested in Child Development and have taken courses in Child Development as part of the requirements for my degree. Currently I am working in HR for a large Defense Company so I have a typical 9-5pm job. I am also starting GRAD school starting August 2008.
So right now babysitting is more of a hobby than a job for me. I do it because I care about children and am very interested in child development. It has always interested me to see how a child learns and grows through out their lifetime. It is my opinion which I'm sure many of you parent's will agree that a good childhood will produce a more healthy adultlife.
Growing up I had a large family with children of all ages around me… I guess that’s why I love being around children so much. Since the age of 12 I have been babysitting children between the ages new born-10 years old, as well as children with special needs. I am also very knowledgable in all the childhood aches and pains. And I know what to do if someone gets a quarter stuck up the nose or swallows one during a magic trick...thanks to my wonderfully curious George of a brother. :)
I also have my CPR license. I am prepared for a sudden emergency...from chocking on a cereal or becoming blue in the face from holding ones breath too long :)
My favorite things to do with children include: arts and crafts, singing, dancing, playing board games, reading bed time stories (teaching young children how to read and write) and watching Disney Movies. I also think it’s very important to incorporate fun and learning together for a child otherwise it would get too boring. Still, I know that not all parents just like children are all alike, therefore I do respect every parent’s individual way of providing structure and guidance for their children. That is why I try to provide the same structure for children I baby-sit that is already provided by their parent. So if there is a certain way that you deal with your child especially when the child is acting up then do let me know ahead of time. I don’t want to come off too easy or too harsh to a child who isn’t used to a stranger caring for them in the absence of the parent(s).
My references are posted on my profile but if you have any further questions please email me. Thank you and I hope to hear from you soon! :)
