Bio
"It takes a village to raise a child".
Hello, my name is Rebecca, and I am currently a college student in Florida, however, I will be relocating to Greensboro, North Carolina this summer for college. I will be working on my Bachelor's degree in psychology at UNCG, and plan to attend the college until I recieve my PhD in Clinical Child Psychology with a focus on child grief counselling. I have decided to look for another nanny position prior to moving, and if you would like to meet, I will be coming to NC several times over the next few months to get set up with school and would love to set up an interview.
While I have a complete resume available by request, I would like to briefly tell of my childcare experience. As early as age 12, I began working for a local children's hospital caring for children with special needs during support group meetings. I would have several children with special needs and thier siblings. I soon became the primary sitter for most of the families who attended the support groups, thus gaining experience with special needs as well as those without special needs. I baby sat regularly over the next several years. When I was 19, I decided I wanted to work full time with kids and accepted my first nanny position. I cared for a 10 month old boy for 6 months, however, I was laid off due to the mortgage decline (mommy was a mortgage loan officer). After this, I became a preschool teacher for a three-four year old class (which I ran single handedly wiht 15 children). When my dad became ill, I decided to reenter the nanny feild for flexibility in my schedule, and I was a nanny for a premature newborn girl with colic and acid reflux as well as a temporary fill in (maternity leave) for a family of three children, ages 1, 3, and 6. I was again laid off due to economic reasons from working with the premature baby. I then found the job I have now, working with twin 1 year old boys and a 3.5 year old boy. I work 11 hours a day, 5 days a week. I have taught all 3 children sign language (the older son far more than the twins), have been here through many great transitions with the children (from starting to walk with the twins to starting school with the older son). I will have no future work conflicts due to my father's condition as he passed away in October from Stage 5 bladder cancer.
I am very dedicated to my work and the families I work for. I believe a nanny should be an extension of the family and the house should run as a team. I love children and will miss the boys and parents I work with now a great deal, however, I have to further my education and UNCG has been top choice school for several years now. The best thing about working with children is seeing them learn new things, grow as individuals, make fresh discoveries everyday, and to watch them develop mentally, physically, and emotionally. And of course, I love to hear them laugh and see them smile! I enjoy being creative in my work, and I take advantage of this every chance I can by creating new activities to pass the time, making learning fun and exicting every day, and just spicing up old games with new twists. I feel constructive play is vital in every child's development, and that is why I try to incorporate educational activities into every day. I enjoy having play dates, going on outings, swim lessons, outdoor play, arts and crafts, reading time, music time, and just having fun with learning. Feel free to contact me with any questions!
