• User Response: I started working for this family at the beginning of August. They told me I would be working Tuesday-Friday. My father collapsed the very first day I started to work for them. I had to cancel the first week of work so I could help my father. The next week August 4-8 I was able to work M,W,R,and F for them. (Tuesdays they told me that I would have off in the month of August because grandparents were watching kids and I was able to work on Mondays instead.) Next week Monday I was suppose to be their at 10 am, because my father had a doctor's appointment and I told them I couldn't get their until later. I had to call in because of a extended doctor's appointment for my father. I said I would call them later in evening, but was very busy helping my father and didn't have a chance to call them back. 8/12- I thought I had off because grandparents were watching, but some miscommunication happened and I was suppose to work. Family call and leaves really mean message about firing me. Says that she is going to call police if I don't get key back to her right away. Call family back and try to explain that I thought I had off. They answer and dad was very calm with me and then mom starts yelling at me because I am not their this morning, when I really thought that I had off. She calls me a stranger who is irresponsible and DEMANDS that I bring her key back today or is going to call cops on me. (I live in Milwaukee during the school year, but during the summer I go home to Lake Geneva.) I am in Lake Geneva thinking I have the day off and am just totally devastated by how this family reacted. Both of their sons are very good kids and I really enjoyed working for them so far. So I do want other families to know the situation and circumstances for my behavior. I take full responsibility for all the problems that happened in this case and I realize that sometimes things just don't work out no matter how much you apologize or are sincere. I missed some days of work and had some communication problems with family. Great family to work for, it was just bad timing for all of us.
